1770 Sioux Indian Pipe Tomahawk Head Forged From Gun-barrel Old Ash Hafting
Fantastic example of 18th century Sioux weaponry. Pipe tomahawks were carried as a sign of power and status but also used to settle treaties and promote peace. This pipe tomahawk is all original and un-restored. A very rare and desirable forged head from a gun barrel. Look closely inside the bowl, there are clearly defined rifling marks. There is a definitive color change on the blade denoting where a hardened steel bit was forged into the softer iron of the gun barrel. Original wood stem shows its concentric rings with drilled smoke hole right in the center. Undecorated haft has an excellent look to it, lots of age and wore areas. There is a small amount of bend in the haft from over 200 years of drying. A museum quality pipe tomahawk ready to hang in your collection. Originates from a Washington DC estate, a very old estate with ties to the wild west days. 21 inch long stem and head is 8.5 inches long. Old plains indian pipe tomahawk forged head bat wing & heart inlaid in blade
Authentic original mid 1800’s Plains Indian pipe tomahawk. This example has a highly sought after silver bat wing & heart inlaid into the blade. The iron head has a nice “in the metal” patina and shows good use and wear patterns. The head was forged and then the blade was cutout then inlaid in the traditional way, seen as pictured. Along the haft are many hot file brand marks and a single shoulder hole with nice original old square shank tacks. Just look at the beautiful wood grain on the haft, amazing! The mouthpiece is well worn and intact. There is a nice original clean out plug in the end of the haft. The head of the tomahawk is 12 and half inches long. The haft is 23 inches long. This tomahawk is heavy and well built, solid and strong. This is a fine example of a Native American weapon of war and peace pipe in one. If you have a question, please ask. Good luck and God bless the USA! The item “Old plains indian pipe tomahawk forged head bat wing & heart inlaid in blade” is in sale since Sunday, April 14, 2019. Hopi Sun Girl Kachina Carving John Poleahla Sr. Native American Indian Cottonwood. Kachina Dolls are gifts given in hope of future abundance and health, as well as tools for education. The Kachina Dolls of today’s art market are a bridge not only between the spiritual world and mortals but also between Hopis and non-Hopis. Each year Kachinas come, they walk upon the earth and they dance to bring life and renewal. When the Kachinas return to the spirit world at the end of the planting, they return with prayers of the Hopi that we might all continue on this earth for another round in the circle of life. There are more than 250 different Kachinas, each with its own separate attributes, representing everything from animals to abstract concepts. The Hopi were the original Kachina Doll carvers, using a single piece of cottonwood root. The Navajo began carving in their own creative way, adding leather, feather, beads and turquoise. SIGNED John Poleahla Sr handcrafted this Kachina a Beautiful work of art out of Cottonwood. The dimensions are 12 3/4 tall. Please view my store for more great items.
