VINTAGE SIOUX NATIVE AMERICAN INDIAN HEADDRESS WAR BONNET. This war bonnet came from a large ethnographic collection along with several other items. It was bought in 1954 from Pine Ridge, South Dakota and was made by Sioux Indians. It is built around a leather skull cap which can be tightened around your head so could easily stay on when galloping on a horse! These were originally a method of displaying war honours such as scalp locks taken from defeated enemies. The tips of the feathers are decorated with hair symbolizing scalp locks. Please check photos carefully for condition. Mannequin head is not included. The item “VINTAGE SIOUX NATIVE AMERICAN PLAINS INDIAN HEADDRESS WAR BONNET” is in sale since Friday, August 30, 2019.
