Large Carved Cigar Store Native American Indian
This Indian has been in my family for over 30 years and due to a new house it’s time to sell him. He is a Large Carved Cigar Store Native American Indian. This is a very rare find, he is a full size American Indian, he is carved from one piece of wood (a tree trunk, possibly pine) which measures almost 4ft in circumference The statue would have stood outside a cigar store, standing out doors would account for some splitting of the wood, there are a few in the length of the statue. The paint seems to be original, it is bright and in reasonably good condition, the spear and the feathers on top of his head can be removed. The Statue is 79 tall, and about 14 in diameter at the floor and is approximately 60kgs. I will consider sending the Indian by courier at extra cost. The item “Large Carved Cigar Store Native American Indian” is in sale since Monday, November 5, 2018. This item is in the category “Collectables\Advertising Collectables\Advertising Signs”. The seller is “rickyfish3″ and is located in Braintree Essex. This item can’t be shipped, the buyer must pick up the item.

In northern Northwest Coast mythology, Raven is the powerful figure who transforms the world. Raven rattles conventionally depict a complex scene in which a human reclines on the back of a raven while his tongue connects with the tongue of a frog. Meanwhile, a second bird’s head, formed from the raven’s tail, holds the man. High-ranking men carried these rattles with the scene inverted as they danced ceremoniously. The raven rattle was a traditional part of the paraphernalia of a dancing chief, which also included an elaborate headdress, a robe, an apron fringed with rattling pendants, and leggings. In use, the rattle was often held belly up in the dancer’s extended hand and shaken rapidly and continuously throughout the dance. This rattle is a reproduction of a mid-1880s original from the Tlingit tribe. The original is at the San Diego, California, Museum of Man Archaeology, Ethnology & Anthropology. It was made by a member of the Tlingit tribe, date unknown. The original rattle is featured a book titled In the Spirit of Mother Earth – Nature in Native American Art. The shamans rattle was important during ceremonial dances or curing rituals. This raven rattle belonged to a Tlingit shaman who used it to call upon his personal guardian spirit. On the birds back is a reclining human figure with mask and a birds head; the humans tongue is held in the birds beak. This rattle was used during the winter lao laxa dance. Among the Northwest Coast tribes the raven was the one that created the world and put people and animals upon it.
