SIGNED SOLID BRONZE NATIVE AMERICAN INDIAN CHIEF AVONA BOOK ENDS CIRCA 1910. Measure approximately 5 ¼ high by 4 ½ wide by 2 3/8 deep. This solid bronze pair of bookends is very high quality as seen in the detail of the features of the American Indian depicted. They are signed’Avona’ underneath the image on each bookend. I have attempted to find out something about Avona – who I assume was an important native American Indian chief or leader but cannot find anything about him. There is an Avona elementary school in Easton, Pennsylvania which may be named after him but again cannot locate any information. If, in fact, Avona lived in eastern Pennsylvania in the 1700’s, he was probably part of either the Lenape, Delaware, or Susquehannock tribe.
