Old plains indian pipe tomahawk forged head bat wing & heart inlaid in blade
Authentic original mid 1800’s Plains Indian pipe tomahawk. This example has a highly sought after silver bat wing & heart inlaid into the blade. The iron head has a nice “in the metal” patina and shows good use and wear patterns. The head was forged and then the blade was cutout then inlaid in the traditional way, seen as pictured. Along the haft are many hot file brand marks and a single shoulder hole with nice original old square shank tacks. Just look at the beautiful wood grain on the haft, amazing! The mouthpiece is well worn and intact. There is a nice original clean out plug in the end of the haft. The head of the tomahawk is 12 and half inches long. The haft is 23 inches long. This tomahawk is heavy and well built, solid and strong. This is a fine example of a Native American weapon of war and peace pipe in one. If you have a question, please ask. Good luck and God bless the USA! The item “Old plains indian pipe tomahawk forged head bat wing & heart inlaid in blade” is in sale since Sunday, April 14, 2019. Antique Lakota Sioux Indian Pipe Tomahawk Forged Head Batwing Heart Cutaway 1880
The pipe tomahawk is in excellent condition with no repairs or damage. Nice head forged and magnificent hearts and batwing cutaways are seen. The heads is 9.5 long and very heavy. Notice the nice thick shoulder on the eye. Ash haft is original to the head. The brass tacks are original old tacks with square shanks. All along the haft are many ceremonial file branding marks made by placing a file or rasp in the fire until it was bright red and then burning the file into the haft. This was done for aesthetic “looks” and ceremonial purposes. VERY NICE patina all over, really shows its age! The unusual style head is very desirable. Conservatively dated to 1880 but may be earlier. The haft of the tomahawk is measuring 24″ long and the head is measuring about 9.5″ long. Please ask any questions you may have. Authentic Mid 1800's Sioux Indian Spontoon Pipe Tomahawk Forged Iron Head Heart
Plains Indians and tribes all throughout the U. Carried these pipe axes as signs of authority. The stem, or the haft, is ash, and it’s been decorated with hot file branding marks, common to Sioux pipe tomahawks. The head is in great condition, its iron and shows excellent age. Large round quillons identify the spontoon style. The spontoon head does show a few dings and blemishes as expected with a piece this old. A nice inlaid brass heart in the blade. The point of the blade is folded over, its an old sign of damage, old repairs and damage are great and show the tomahawk was used. The haft has some wear but its a solid as a rock. Ceremonial hot file brands are seen along the haft’s length. A single shoulder on the haft, drilled with a single hole that could be used to tie on a beaded drop or old trade beads and buck skin thongs. Makes for a beautiful display! Tomahawk dates 1850 or earlier. The stem is about 2 feet long and the head of the tomahawk is 11 inches long. I hate to sell this but my husband has long since passed away and I need to sell some of his collection to make ends meet. I just hope this goes to a good home, someone who will appreciate it.
