This sweater is by Alex Kerr, California Skeet Shooting Hall of Famer. A fixture among the Hollywood elite, movie star anglers and hunters. Many stars frequented his shop, Gary Cooper, Crosby, Grant, Elvis, Robert Stack, to name a few… His family hails from the early years of the KERR CANNING JARS. This sweater originally belonged to John Digardi of San Francisco, who was a member of the California Indians Skeet and Gun club. His name is on the tomahawk leather patch on the front. He was the Indian High Chief Thunderbird in 1963 for the California Indians Skeet and Gun Club. An Internet search turned up various articles relating to skeet shooting competitions that mentioned John Digardi of the California Indians in the 1950s into the early 1960s. The May 22, 1963 issue of the Nevada State Journal, Reno, had an article with a photo of John Digardi, mentioning that he was the “Indian High Chief Thunderbird”. This sweater has a gold-tone metal talon zipper. The weave of the sweater is very fine , it does show a few repairs. The shoulder leather gun rest shows some rubs, see pic. The two patches on the sweater are in perfect condition… The Thunderbird on the back an 8 circle, and the California Indian s, on the sleeve 6x 5-1/4. I have more vintage shooting sweaters from the same estate that I will be listing. Measurements: the label says size 42. Pit-to-pit measures 2 1, Shoulder to bottom 2 7-1/2, pit to cuff 17-1/2 with a folded under portion 3-1/4 (showing the sleeve was shortened at on point). Shoulder to shoulder 2 0. All measurements taken with the sweater laid flat. Be sure double the appropriate measurements.
