Old Authentic Yokuts Native American Central California Indian stone mortar bowl. This set comes from the collection of my husband, who has been collecting for over 50 years. The Mortar came to us from the Los Banos area, Merced County, in the San Joaquin Valley of California and is likely Yokut. Please note the “pestle” isn’t actually a a pestle, but a stone that has the right shape, and displays well with the bowl. The mortar is a granite river. It measures about 12-1/2″ long x 8-1/2″ wide and 6 at the highest point. Nice deep hole about 4-1/4 deep. The bowl weighs about 29lbs on my postal scale. There are bits of cement on one end of the mortar bowl, see lase photo. The bowl has an unusual shape and doesn’t stand up on it’s own. The grape vine ring Is included with the bowl. There are some dark brown marks on the bowl that don’t seem to want to come off. (perhaps there were markings guiding to a long lost treasure ;-). The “pestle” (see note above).
