Pacific northwest American Indian inspired fine art painting in Egg tempera
Pacific northwest American Indian inspired fine art painting. Painted in Egg-Tempera custom paint. Dimensions: 5″ x 7″ inches on wood block. This is a hand-painted wood block abstract interpretive painting by myself. My name is Michael, I’m the artist. (1) piece in this listing. Each of these paintings in this body of work are painted in 2022. Each of these pieces is painted in traditional egg tempura and mixed by me. Egg tempura is a process of mixing paints from egg yolk, vinegar, water, and high quality paint pigments. This allows the artist an incredible and varied degree of flexibility in terms of paint opacity and transparency. Painting in egg tempera has been one of the greatest experiences of my creative career. I’ve used only high-quality paint pigments as well as brush strokes styles that are influenced from the 1500s Byzantine era. Each of these pieces is interpreted from Animals, orca whales, beaver’s, birds, and other natural wildlife important to the native culture of the Pacific Northwest American Indian tribes. Many of the shapes are shapes found within the traditional paintings of the animals and wildlife. If you have any questions please feel free to reach out to me or if you have an interest in larger pieces available on commission I’m also available for hire. Thank you again for taking your time to look at these works. This item is in the category “Art\Paintings”. The seller is “berkeley_michael” and is located in this country: US.

In northern Northwest Coast mythology, Raven is the powerful figure who transforms the world. Raven rattles conventionally depict a complex scene in which a human reclines on the back of a raven while his tongue connects with the tongue of a frog. Meanwhile, a second bird’s head, formed from the raven’s tail, holds the man. High-ranking men carried these rattles with the scene inverted as they danced ceremoniously. The raven rattle was a traditional part of the paraphernalia of a dancing chief, which also included an elaborate headdress, a robe, an apron fringed with rattling pendants, and leggings. In use, the rattle was often held belly up in the dancer’s extended hand and shaken rapidly and continuously throughout the dance. This rattle is a reproduction of a mid-1880s original from the Tlingit tribe. The original is at the San Diego, California, Museum of Man Archaeology, Ethnology & Anthropology. It was made by a member of the Tlingit tribe, date unknown. The original rattle is featured a book titled In the Spirit of Mother Earth – Nature in Native American Art. The shamans rattle was important during ceremonial dances or curing rituals. This raven rattle belonged to a Tlingit shaman who used it to call upon his personal guardian spirit. On the birds back is a reclining human figure with mask and a birds head; the humans tongue is held in the birds beak. This rattle was used during the winter lao laxa dance. Among the Northwest Coast tribes the raven was the one that created the world and put people and animals upon it.
