The horse keeps his head low, its nose pointed forward as he runs powerfully. The careful details can be seen in the cut of the horse’s strong legs and the glare in its face. 100% bronze and handmade, this brown patina sculpture was cast using the “Lost Wax Method” and mounted on a black marble base and is signed Remington. SIGNED SOLID BRONZE NATIVE AMERICAN INDIAN CHIEF AVONA BOOK ENDS CIRCA 1910. Measure approximately 5 ¼ high by 4 ½ wide by 2 3/8 deep. This solid bronze pair of bookends is very high quality as seen in the detail of the features of the American Indian depicted. They are signed’Avona’ underneath the image on each bookend. I have attempted to find out something about Avona – who I assume was an important native American Indian chief or leader but cannot find anything about him. There is an Avona elementary school in Easton, Pennsylvania which may be named after him but again cannot locate any information. If, in fact, Avona lived in eastern Pennsylvania in the 1700’s, he was probably part of either the Lenape, Delaware, or Susquehannock tribe. This sculpture is in perfect condition. Bronze Dimensions with Marble Base:Height 24″ x Width 12″. Marble Dimensions: Diameter 8. Height without base: 23. This impressionistic bust of the Indian chief instills a since of pride, respect, and honor. He holds his spear tightly next to him ready to defend his people at moment. He has a Mohawk and wears a traditional necklace. His cloak drapes down his shoulder and bunches by his elbow. His hair is braided and falls onto his back, in his Mohawk he wears feathers that stick out and blow in the wind. His face is old and worn, He is a man of many places and time, and he can tell you stories of a thousand years. This is a very spiritual and tranquil piece. This sculpture was casted using the Lost Wax Method and has a brown patina. It is handmade and sits on a marble base. This sculpture is signed by the artist Nick.
