Navajo weaving Shiprock Yei woven in 1979. Features one Yei figure standing in the Corn plants and surrounded by a Rainbow Yei. Corn is one of the four sacred plants to the Navajo people and the Rainbow God protects the Yei figures and the rainbow itself comes out after the rains which waters the corn. A rainbow Yei sometimes considered an aspect of the rain-God Water Sprinkler, is drawn around every sandpainting; his body curls around the south, west, and north sides to protect the painting from outside influences, and to protect the user from the power of the god depicted in the painting. He does not need to cover the east, because no evil can come from the east in Navajo thought. Measures 24 by 23 inches. Small, Vintage Navajo Rug Description and Item Information Up for sale is this small, vintage Navajo wool weaving. Please excuse the glare in the photos. This small rug or mat measures approximately 26 1/4 inches long by 17 1/2 inches wide (excluding the corner tassels). It has an attractive, patterned design in pleasing colors. Unpacked, it weighs 15.4 ounces. This would be a nice addition to a collection of Native American art, or it would look great in a southwest decor. Identification This Navajo weaving is vintage, but the exact age is not known. Condition This piece looks very good overall, with no fraying, rips, stains, or holes. There are a few tiny, thin areas where the foundation threads show; this is limited a small area at one corner on one side (please see examples shown in Photo 5; the pen and pencil tips point to the largest areas, which are quite small, as you can see). Light does not pass through these spots when this weaving is held up. It has light wear overall, with minor surface pilling. There are no foul odors from pets or cigarettes, just a very faint, slightly musty, “wool” smell. Terms of Sale 1.
